Overview

Miaroo Matcha & Co. was a wellness beverage startup I co-founded and took from concept to market. At the time (March 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic), matcha was still a niche product in the Western market. Most consumers associated it with bitterness and the “ultra-health” segment rather than as a mainstream coffee alternative. The challenge was not only introducing a novel product but also shifting consumer behavior away from their deeply ingrained coffee routines.

The strategy: position matcha as a trendy, approachable lifestyle choice — not just for health enthusiasts — and build a brand identity that matched the moment when consumers were suddenly hyper-aware of their health and wellness.

Scope of Work

  • Brand Concept & Identity:

    • Created the brand identity, color schemes, fonts, and packaging design.

    • Positioned the brand as trendy, stylish, and approachable to appeal to younger, health-conscious but lifestyle-driven consumers.

  • Website Development & E-Commerce:

    • Built the full Shopify website from scratch.

    • Designed product pages optimized for education and conversion.

  • Go-to-Market Strategy:

    • Developed positioning and messaging that educated consumers on matcha’s benefits (sustained energy, focus, immunity).

    • Built influencer partnerships with lifestyle creators to showcase “switching from coffee to matcha.”

    • Designed educational campaigns to demystify matcha’s umami flavor profile.

  • Marketing Execution:

    • Managed influencer campaigns and partnerships.

    • Led all digital marketing, advertising, and customer acquisition campaigns.

    • Oversaw product launches and distribution in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Business Development:

    • Established supplier/manufacturer partnerships.

    • Built early traction to scale distribution across both markets.

Results

  • Successfully launched a wellness product in the middle of COVID when consumer attention was shifting rapidly.
